La Maddalena

The Maddalena Archipelago is a group of islands located in the north-east of Sardinia. The most important islands are La Maddalena, Caprera, Santo Stefano, Budelli, Santa Maria, Razzoli and Spargi. Since 1994 both the marine and the terrestrial area of the archipelago are part of the National Park Archipelago of La Maddalena.

Every day hundreds of tourists use the many boats that leave from Sardinia to visit the beauty of the archipelago. The beaches and coves of the various islands are in fact famous for the clarity of the water and the beauty of the surrounding natural setting. Corsara Cove, on the island of Spargi, is one of the most popular destinations, thanks to the beautiful beach of fine sand. On the island of Budelli there is the Pink Beach, whose charming color comes from the disintegration of shells on the shore.

The largest of the islands of the archipelago is in fact La Maddalena. Here there is the homonymous town which has about 11,000 inhabitants. La Maddalena is a beautiful harbor town and it is well worth a walk through the downtown streets.

The second largest island is Caprera and is connected to La Maddalena by a bridge. In addition to the beauty of its beaches Caprera is known for having been the residence of Giuseppe Garibaldi, whose house; now a museum, is a destination for many visitors throughout the year.
